Wu Chi Gong

It is the essential body alignment to kick-start vital energy (or chi) circulation. It bears different names, such as the Horse Position, Holding the Tree etc.

This particular exercise is called Wu Chi Gong, ‘wu chi’ meaning in Chinese the state of stillness before Tai chi, tai chi in turn indicates the separation into Yin and Yang, ie movement.

There are many other versions of this posture, but whatever one is used is a great lower back pain exercise. The only differences are how bent the knees are and for which purpose it is used (martial arts, energy development and concentration, health, etc.), but at its roots it always entails energy development from an optimum body alignment.
